Makers of Fine Druid Wands since 10001 W.R.

Alferian Gwydion MacLir, – Master Wandmaker

Alferian's Photo Bardwood Wandry is a small, traditional wandmaking establishment, creating hand-carved wooden wands for use in magic and ritual.  Yours truly, Alferian Gwydion MacLir, is the Wandmaker and proprietor of the shop. Each wand that I make is lovingly hand-carved and enchanted with a magical core. Some are augmented with magical stones, crystals and other design elements intended to enhance the power of the wand All are made from the carefully selected wood of sacred trees according to the methods of Druid tradition and Elvish lore.

A wand is a magical tool and as such must be charged and invested with intention by its user. Real magic is very subtle and always in accord with Nature's laws. I am dedicated to working with the dryad spirits of the trees in creating magic wands. Because of this, I use hand tools and a painstaking process of magical making. The use of machines is kept to a minimum and nothing is mass-produced. Each wand from my wandry is unique.

At left are links to other pages in this website. In the Products section you will find galleries of wands, staves, boxes, athames and other items I have made.

However, please note that at present I am on sabbatical and not taking any orders.

In the Lore section you will find information on wood types, stones, runes, mythical beasts, and magic. But, even better....

ANNOUNCING!  MY BOOK
WANDLORE:  The Art of Crafting the Ultimate Magical Tool

wandlore cover

After six years of research and writing, I have managed to distill my knowledge of the craft of wandmaking into a book. This book is the first of its kind -- a fully illustrated treatise and instruction manual on the making of magic wands.

Published in July 2011 by Llewellyn Worldwide Publications, Wandlore includes detailed information on the magical properties of trees and their wood, and also those of many stones used as wand reservoirs.  There are chapters on dryads and magical cores, as well as step by step instructions on how to fashion, carve, stain, ornament, and enchant a wooden wand using the techniques that I have refined over my years as a wandmaker.

With this book, you will discover much about magic that you did not know, whether you are a novice or an adept.  The magic wand is traditionally the principal tool of magicians, wizards, druids, and witches (as well as fairy godmothers).

J. K. Rowling gave the world the mysterious Mr. Ollivander, wandmaker to the world of Harry Potter.  Now you can discover how a wandmaker actually works.  In addition to discussing wandmaking at all levels of metaphysical and physical reality, "Wandlore" is equipped with a detailed bibliography for further research, and several appendices for quick reference to the qualities of stones and trees and magical creatures.

Throughout the book are photographs and diagrams illustrating the infinite variety of styles possible and the process of shaping and carving a wand of wood.  This is a book that every wizard or witch will want to have on his or her book shelf.  Whether you aspire to craft your own wand or not, this is the book that will tell you everything you wanted to know about how magic wands work, and more!  Buy your copy today!
